About our non-profit

With the support of an engaged board of directors, Les programmes éducatifs JA Québec (or JA Quebec) inspires and educates young people ages 10 to 18 about entrepreneurship, work readiness and financial literacy to develop their skills as entrepreneurs and leaders. We provide two different types of fun, hands-on programs free of charge in schools (in-person or online) with the help of volunteers from the business community. These include 9 school programs (ages 10 to 18), consisting of several hours of workshops, and 2 entrepreneurship programs: the Company Program (ages 15 to 18) and the Junior Entrepreneur Program (ages 10 to 11), where students start their own business over many weeks. Established over 60 years ago in Quebec, our non-profit organization is a member of JA Canada and JA Worldwide. The JA family is present in over 115 countries worldwide. JA Quebec is seeking to fill the position of Coordinator, Company Program and Junior Entrepreneur Program to help us continue our development and fulfill our educational mission in Quebec schools.

Job description

The coordinator will be responsible for coordinating weekly operations for the Company Program and the Junior Entrepreneur Program, along with complementary activities and related events. This person will be responsible for re-engaging and recruiting student program participants, volunteers, schools, teachers and centre supervisors. They will also oversee planning and execution of various events for students, including the HEC training day, the Christmas market, contests, student pitches to businesses, trade fairs, the COJEQ annual young entrepreneurs summit and the gala. They will also oversee program structure and content and track implementation of in-class and extracurricular programs at schools.

Main responsibilities

  • Create a yearly action plan for implementing programs, for carrying out activities and for new areas for development
  • Coordinate all steps for delivery of the Company Program and Junior Entrepreneur Program for in-class and extracurricular tracks: recruitment; managing registration forms; matching schools, volunteers and centre supervisors; and volunteer orientation and training
  • Make sure operations are carried out according to schedule
  • Give presentations to targeted groups and businesses from time to time to recruit volunteers from the business community and promote programs
  • Identify an efficient system for recruiting students and volunteers before the start of the school year, and create an action plan for recruiting and retention
  • Recruit and train volunteers, teachers and centre supervisors
  • Ensure the smooth delivery of programs at program centres and schools
  • Foster strong relationships with and provide excellent customer service and clear communication to all parties involved: school principals, teachers, volunteers, the board of directors, centre supervisors, students, etc.
  • Follow up with teachers for programs delivered in classrooms to answer their questions and maintain strong relationships with them
  • Meet with centre supervisors once a week to walk them through weekly operations, provide them with materials, ensure information is conveyed to volunteers and track weekly operations and activities; as needed, hold one-on-one coaching sessions and keep the guide for supervisors up to date
  • Handle complaints and find last-minute solutions to problems that arise
  • Collaborate with the head of program and schools development to achieve growth by seeking out new schools, new students and new groups of volunteers
  • Ensure annual objectives are met by adjusting strategies as needed during the year
  • Oversee planning, logistics and execution of program-related contests, activities and events
  • Manage inventory and availability of materials in cooperation with the programs assistant
  • Carry out the required reporting/prepare the reports requested for partners, the President and CEO, and JA Canada
  • Apply the appreciation plan for program volunteers
  • Keep an eye on JA successes in other provinces and use those insights for program development in Quebec
  • Actively participate in meetings and various JA Quebec activities
  • Perform any other related tasks

Qualifications and skills we’re looking for:

  • Bachelors degree in project or event management, marketing or communication, or equivalent experience
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in project or event coordination
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, social skills, drive and ability to be diplomatic
  • Action-oriented and results-oriented leadership
  • Versatile and able to occasionally work within tight deadlines
  • Team player, thorough, self-starter, resourceful
  • Excellent ability to adapt and persevere
  • Organizational skills and ability to prioritize
  • Bilingual (required)
  • Experience with/knowledge of JA programs (an asset)

Employment conditions and benefits

  • Permanent position, 35 hours a week
  • Hybrid work arrangement (office in Montreal near Berri-UQAM/Sherbrooke metro stations)
  • 3 weeks of vacation after 1 year, 4 weeks after 3 years
  • Summer schedule, pre-authorized overtime and lieu time
  • Group insurance and group RRSP after 5-month probationary period
  • Office closed for two weeks for the year-end holidays
  • Office closed during the year-end holidays
  • Availability to work outside of regular hours on occasion (evenings and several weekends)
  • Reimbursement of travel expenses for events
  • Must have reliable access to a car
  • Must own a car
  • Salary: $20-$22 an hour, depending on experience
